Thurston Moore announces new release – Screen Time
Screen Time, the seventh solo album by the visionary noisenik and founder of Sonic Youth, will be released on 25 February via Southern Lord.

The instrumental album Screen Time is a series of atmospheric guitar compositions, hinting at the brooding vibe of the pandemic. The material was recorded during the summer of 2020. With the title alluding to the lockdown lifestyle, Screen Time seemingly derives from contemplative observation. Two tracks – Station and Walk – are adventurous guitar pieces that give a sense of endless possibilities behind the instrument and creative mind.

Clearly, Screen Time is a topical record, addressing the issues that relate to the impact of digital media on one’s daily life. The cover shows a youngster, reading a book with sheer enthusiasm. The artist describes the image in a poetic way, raising concerns over the negative influence of the Internet. “The pages vibratory with text radiating through the skin, blood and bone – an aspect entirely missing from digital media, though the actuality of transparency in our daily lives through streaming etc we can only hope leads to the awareness of fairness”.

The official release describes Screen Time as a record “in reflection to dream time, a state of meditation, hypnagogia and pillow talk”.

Listen to Station and Walk on Thurston Moore’s Bandcamp.

The album can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp, Southern Lord and Southern Lord Europe.
