The legendary musician Sammy Hagar recently reflected on his relationship with fellow late legend Eddie Van Halen. He is quite grateful for having the opportunity to reconnect with him prior to Eddie’s death.

Sammy Hagar’s final departure from Van Halen in 2005 was on a bitter note and some of the things left unsaid could be felt lingering above The Red Rocker’s relationship with the official VH camp.

Nevertheless, the two parties did manage to iron out their differences before Eddie Van Halen’s untimely passing in 2020, which is something Hagar is immensely grateful for today, as he himself now explains.

Sammy Hagger talks about the matter

Speaking to Fox News in a new interview, the iconic singer reflected on his relationship with Edward, and noted that getting to bury the hatchet prior to the guitar hero’s death made him feel better about his shared legacy with the band (transcription via Blabbermouth):

“To be able to have talked to Eddie and had a wonderful rapport with him on text, it means everything to me. If he would have died and we would have not ever said ‘I love you’ to each other again, I would feel really bad. I probably wouldn’t be able to talk… I wouldn’t be able to talk to you about it.

“So that means a lot to me. And it means a lot, I think, for me to feel good about talking about being in Van Halen now. ‘Cause I feel like we buried the hatchet. To where otherwise I’d be saying, ‘Well, those guys…’ ‘Cause I was mad, I was hurt. It’s very important that we connected, yeah.”
