We are sorry to hear of the death of the great Wilko Johnson – the legendary guitar player who reinvented the instrument with his chopping style and was a precursor to so much of the way the instrument was used in punk and post-punk. Renowned for his charismatic zig-zagging moves on stage and wild-eyed demeanour  Wilko was also a deeply intelligent gentle man whose passion for astronomy (interview about it here) and for speaking old Icelandic was somewhat at odds with his stripped-down sawn-off musical style. A total one-off who defined a near brush with death with cancer eight years ago he had one of the great second acts in musical history in the last ten years when he came to be a deserved national treasure.

He was always a very welcome at our Louder Than Words annual music and books event where his passion for reading and literature was made more than apparent.

One of the greats – we will miss you.
