Baby Fire Announces New EP “A Year Of Grace”

Emerging in 2009 from the back alleys of the Brussels alternative scene, Baby Fire is a trio defined by a rock style which is full of rage, haunted, powerful, poetic and refined.

‘A Year of Grace’ closes the grace trilogy formed by ‘Searching for Grace’ (4-track EP, 2020) and ‘Grace’ (album, 2022). The new EP comprises 3 remixes from the ‘Grace’ album, one previously unreleased track (‘Like Stars’) and ‘A Year of Grace’. These last 2 tracks describe the painful mental journey of Dominique Van Cappellen-Waldock – Baby Fire’s body and soul – among the post-covid music rubble, in which it has become virtually impossible to be heard. We embark on a trip which evokes the illusion of a renewed artistic scene and the disappointment brought on by a very conservative environment, which generates weariness.

‘A Year of Grace’ was produced by Déhà (Wolvennest, La Muerte…). It marks the beginning of a collaboration between Dominique and the producer, a sign that with Baby Fire the singer is pursuing her mission as a genuine artist, marked by an uncompromising creativity: Dominique Van Cappellen-Waldock delves into her personal experience to create an emotionally powerful narrative. Her introspective and poetic lyrics invite the listener to delve into the depths of her soul.

Close to the aesthetic defended by artists such as P.J. Harvey, Shannon Wright or Chelsea Wolfe, Dominique began to shape her universe through contacts with personalities she met at venues in her own country and abroad. Among these are Eugene Robinson (Oxbow), Dana Schechter (Insect Ark, Swans), Mike Moya (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) as well as Eve Libertine and Penny Rimbaud of Crass. In 2014 ‘The Red Robe’ album came into being in the heart of Dial House, mythic headquarters of the British punk collective.

Alongside her band’s activities, the singer invests her energy in the agency UneFois which promotes the development of Belgium-based women musicians. Dominique Van Cappellen-Waldock is a linchpin of Magasin 4, the epicentre of alternative music in Brussels, where she is active behind the scenes. A passionate and heartfelt gift of self which has always underpinned Baby Fire’s repertoire: « This is an emotional journey for me. I have been assigned a mission, as if touched by grace, coming from an unknown place, amidst the post-covid rubble. I hope that the listener will get to plunge into this as if he/she were exploring their own depths. »
