In a mysterious world where dreamlike croon resonates through the atmosphere, a ghostly presence of rich guitars and dark melodies coalesce, crafting a picture that is strikingly similar to post-punk revival acts such as Interpol and Franz Ferdinand laced with spectral echoes of Joy Division. The outcome of this captivating mix is a brand new ‘border goth’ cut from The Slashes called “Dead Majesty”, which flows with the rhythmic beat of the drums, explosive breaks full of chaotic energy, melodic guitars revealing emotive secrets, and bass lines pulsing with life – all while the soaring hooks slice through the murky sound like ghostly figures.

“Dead Majesty is about running away from a dead royal and starting a romance riot,” says the band.

Dead Majesty’s composition is heavily influenced by Bauhaus and other Gothic Rock and Deathrock bands, which can be heard in The Slashes’ haunting sound. Rene’s deep voice adds an enigmatic and ghostly quality to the composition. The track has a mysterious and eerie feel, like a procession of phantoms, with every note shrouded in mystery and uncertainty.

Listen to “Dead Majesty” below:

The Slashes, a formidable power trio comprised of Esteban Rene lending his voice and guitar skills, Beto Bautista providing the rhythm on bass, and Carlos Robles beating life into the drums, first made their energetic splash on the music scene in 2015 with the launch of their self-titled debut album. The album, produced by the seasoned hand of Alan Sanderson – a man who’s had the privilege of working with the likes of music giants The Rolling Stones and Elvis Costello, served as a stage for the band’s raw, adrenaline-soaked sonic artistry.

This initial auditory offering received laudatory nods from critics and landed them a nomination in the category of Best Rock at the prestigious San Diego Music Awards. Ever since, The Slashes have been serving up their distinct brand of rock across Southern California, gracing the stages of some of the region’s most esteemed music venues, including Santa Ana’s The Observatory, the iconic Rainbow Bar in LA, and The Casbah in the heart of San Diego.

2018 saw The Slashes making a pilgrimage to Singing Serpent Studios to birth their new single, “City By,” under the skilled production guidance of Ben Moore. This single burst into the digital world in early 2019 across all major streaming platforms, signifying a fresh, electrifying chapter in the band’s journey. With the winds of success at their backs, The Slashes returned to New York for a second tour, charged and ready to electrify new audiences with their dynamic live performances.

The Slashes play tonight (July 28th) at The Mint in Los Angeles. and on 4 August at the Soda Bar in San Diego. Don’t miss them!
