Those readers who follow our pages regularly probably remember Bruce & Harry, a catchy single by Brighton-based group Boxteles. Now they’re back with Hindsight, another exceptional composition that will unquestionably appeal to all the fans of alternative sound. It is their tenth single since 2019, and they also released a critically acclaimed Break-Ups, Bevs & Thinking Ahead EP. Perhaps Boxteles almost solely relied upon the fundamentals of alternative rock on their previous works, but this particular composition showcases some other complementary music genres lurking around. You’ll unquestionably notice how various ingredients borrowed from pop-punk, punk rock, and indie rock shaped the ambiance of Hindsight. This style suits them well, and there are many segments included in this composition where each musician shines bright with exceptional musicianship. Of course, nothing would sound so profoundly good without so many ideas invested into these segments, and Hindsight proves that Boxteles are incredible musicians in so many ways.

I adore how Boxteles always had a sense of balance in their songs. There are generous servings of sheer dynamics on one side, while the ear-appealing mellowness enhances the listening experience on the other. Boxteles always knew how to satisfy even the pickiest listeners, and that is the case with Hindsight as well. Perhaps this number has that melodic punk rock energy, but the indie/alternative base remains intact. You’ll still hear those arpeggiated chord progressions, catchy riffs, and detailed warm-sounding basslines. All these orchestrations especially shine bright during the mesmerizing choruses, where the entire band bursts with some wild, genuine, beautiful energy. The lead vocal harmonies never sounded this good, and the singer contributes another layer of melodies to this song. However, there are also back vocals that give even more depth to an already catchy song. It almost sounds like something power pop bands would do but in a more indie-punk way. Boxteles are one of the best indie bands you’ll stumble upon nowadays, and Hindsight is more than solid proof of it. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
