Depeche Mode has emerged from the shadows with a haunting new single, “My Cosmos Is Mine,” a glimpse into their upcoming album, Memento Mori. Reminiscent of their Songs of Faith and Devotion and Ua eras, this plodding track is dripping with emotion and angst, a sign of the times with Gahan’s plea for justice and universal peace.

The track’s ominous, distant drums build the foundation before Dave Gahan’s vocals emerge, dripping in reverb. “Don’t play with my world/ Don’t mess with my mind/ Don’t question my spacetime/ My cosmos is mine,” he croons, with a warning that reverberates like the chimes of a clock tower. Though it seems directed at a single person, the track quickly transforms into a powerful protest anthem. Gahan pleads for “no war” and “no fear,” before ultimately declaring, “No final breaths/ No senseless deaths.”

With “My Cosmos Is Mine,” Depeche Mode showcases a darker, more industrial sound than their signature synth-pop. The track’s foreboding, dystopian aesthetic seeps into the listener’s consciousness like a midnight fog, leaving a lasting impression. Listen to the song below and prepare yourself for another mesmerizing album from Depeche Mode.
