Yesterday, I introduced Songs Of Love In The Age Of Anarchy, a picture 12″ vinyl record by Desolat. Today, I would like to get back a little bit in time and talk about their previous recording named Shareholder Of Shit. If you caught my recent post about this Austrian sludge machinery, you already know what you’re dealing with. Shareholder Of Shit is their debut 10″ EP, released right in between their appearances on compilations such as Ihr Werdet Euch Noch Weundern and 1998-2018: 20 Years BloodshedD666 Records, and Songs Of Love In The Age Of Anarchy. Perhaps this material doesn’t possess an advanced production as their newer material, but it unquestionably shakes the foundations of the several genres.

Shareholder Of Shit carries five profoundly delicate compositions that at so many points define the direction of Desolat. Perhaps this material is less sludgy and doomy, but it contains those elements as well. Still, you may hear other ingredients such as Swedish death metal, black metal, neo crust, noise rock, while the stoner lurks in a more sophisticated form. Desolat thoroughly combined this comprehensive collection of complementary elements into a harmonious slab of noise that will especially appeal to the fans of experimental music who’re looking out for some catchy experimental sludgy sound. It seems like the aesthetics of the late eighties crust punk/stenchcrust are covering this amalgam with thick layers of dirtiness, noisiness, and fuzziness. Still, Desolat measures every ingredient, so that’s the case with these crusty aesthetics as well.

The layers of fuzziness are covering cleverly assembled guitar shreds. These layers are something like a trademark of this band, which unquestionably shines bright through series of perfectly constructed riffages. The rhythmic sequences are defining the creative path within each composition, while the distorted basslines are coming as a binding element between the beforementioned guitars and drums. The vocals are leaning towards roaring screams, regular screams, and semi-growls, so if you’re into death metal, black metal, or crust punk, you’ll relish the vocal abilities of the lead singer. As I mentioned in a previous review, their music vividly resembles Entombed, Obituary, Celtic Frost, Bolt Thrower, Neurosis, Unsane, Iron Monkey, Amebix, Discharge, From Ashes Rise, and many other groups that incorporated all abovementioned genres into colossal clusters of ear-appealing noise.

Shareholder Of Shit comes on a 10″ vinyl, accompanied by a marvelous photomanipulation/artwork by Lisl Matzer. This material represents both audio and visual treat for the true admirers of extreme music. Head over to their Bandcamp page for more detailed information about ordering.
