Croatian indie rock group Embassy 516 has recently teamed up with Geenger Records to release “Trans,” their highly anticipated third full-length that closes the trilogy. You had a chance to read a few lines about “Surveillance Of The Environment” and “Correlation,” two previous full-lengths also released via Geenger Records. However, if you somehow missed my writings, you’ll be surprised by the quality of “Trans.” I can’t say this material is their best one to date because all their records sound magnificent, but with great assurance, I can say “Trans” is the most advanced. It took them five years to release this album, and the reason for such a delay lies in the quality of their new songs.

Embassy 516 shared “Darkslide” as their introductory piece and a sneak peek into this material. Accompanied by the lyric video, this composition demonstrated their ability to maintain a fresh and unique sound that even pushes the boundaries, bends all the rules, and reinvents several complementary music genres. That’s the case with the remainder of the material as well. Through their immensely delicate songs, these folks shapeshifted the crucial rules of shoegaze, dream pop, indie pop, indie rock, and alternative without changing the aesthetics of an album a bit. All these elements are equally present in the mix, but their usage depends on the song’s mood. Žarko Dragojević and the rest of the gang assembled this comprehensive collection with such precision and finesse, and you’ll love every moment spent listening to “Trans.”

“Trans” reveals what happens when years of recording and performing music, various experiences, knowledge, and ideas collide. This material arrives like a colossal slab built upon thoughtfully assembled themes, reverby leads, magnificent melodies, catchy chord progressions, and heavy riffs. The generous servings of studio reverb decorate the majority of the instrumentations, uplifting the entire listening experience on an entirely new level. Žarko Dragojević paid so much attention while producing this material, so every instrument has enough room to breathe in the mix. There are no doubts that guitars shine on this material, but let’s not forget the remaining instrumentations. Of course, this material wouldn’t sound so powerful without equally complex, skillfully assembled, vividly hearable, warm-sounding low-end notes that provide more heaviness, clarity, and depth to this record. The outstanding drumming performance offers more than necessary groove and pace through an entire amalgam of well-accentuated, tastefully played beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Embassy 516 even included cleverly arranged synth leads, themes, melodies, and ambiances, contributing to the complexity of this record.

Tracks like “Proximity Alert,” “Wavenumber,” “The Highlight Paradox,” “Ergo Propter Hoc,” “Full Range Injection,” “Confirmation Bias,” and “Dwell” are standouts of “Trans,” but you will solely enjoy the entire material thanks to the experience, knowledge, skills, creativity, talent, ideas, and musicianship of the entire band. They put so much time and ideas into “Trans,” and the effort paid off in a marvelous full-length album without any flaws. Quite the contrary, Embassy 516 is one of those bands who think about even the tiniest details while writing, composing, recording, and producing music. Žarko Dragojević did an outstanding job while mixing and mastering this material, so “Trans” shines with a sound quality that matches all the trends in modern music production. You should put “Trans” and Embassy 516 on your radar because this album and these creative musicians deserve your utmost attention. “Trans” is available on vinyl and streaming services.
