Relapse” is a brand new song by Fallen Letters, an Indian alternative rock duo. It’s the second single from “Forlorn Pages,” their upcoming extended play release, and a perfect follow-up to “Remain In Memory,” an excellent song they unleashed earlier this year. Soundswise, Fallen Letters combines different genres to illustrate such rich and luxurious sonic imagery. Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice other sonic ingredients borrowed from other complementary music genres lurking around. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon elements of post-rock, post-metal, progressive rock, indie rock, and hard rock along the way. Fallen Letters used these additional elements as more than necessary nuances and decorations, while the duo remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations resulted in a mesmerizing number that will appeal to even the pickiest alternative rock fans.

The guitar plays a major role in this sonic equation. The duo paid so much attention while assembling catchy themes, leads, melodies, harmonies, chord progressions, and riffs. You’ll notice how both harmoniously guitars play different patterns at the same time, providing a perfect sonic tapestry for the listeners. The subtle addition of reverb and delay effect offer even more complexity, while the melancholic, progressive, detailed arpeggiated chord progressions build a calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal ambiance. Still, Fallen Letters incorporated more than enough aggressive, heavy, robust, and powerful riffs where generous servings of distortion reign supreme. But “Relapse” retains the same mesmerizing atmosphere, where all the melodies and harmonies dominate. Of course, equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines lurk right beneath these guitar layers, providing more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity, while the drumming performance built upon half time, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics dictates groove and pace. Still, the lead vocalist steals the show here with his outstanding balance between low, mid, and high notes. His sincere, confident, emotive vocal performance will immediately grab your attention.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that Fallen Letters are not joking around with their sound. Everything sounds top-notch from scratch to finish. You’ll notice how these skillful musicians perfectly planned the entire song structure, thoroughly thinking while implementing every vocal articulation, melody, harmony, theme, lead, bassline, and drum pattern. Fallen Letters showcase all their ideas and musicianship with ease by delivering a magnificent post-rock-infused alternative rock track that will immediately become your go-to whenever you need flawlessly executed music. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
