In the middle of those once carefree days of summer, Family Dinner are supplying the soundtrack to good times with their new single “Morning Haze” out today. Vocalist Natalie O’Keeffe chimes “I always wanna wake up high/ And every time I change my mind” as the song rolls from punchy guitars into a dream-like state before revising “But I still wanna wake up high.” The song would fit right alongside recent releases from acts like Speedy Ortiz and Dazy, while connecting with luminaries like Superchunk. You can watch the band through a fish-eye lens in the video for “Morning Haze” here and find the song on streaming services.

Following the edgy, empowerment track “Revenge Dress,” both singles showcase the range the band has to create alternative rock songs that makes you want to dance. Entering the studio with Brett Romnes and Vinnie Caruana (The Movielife, I Am The Avalanche) last year, Family Dinner is set to release their debut full-length, God Looks Out For Fools, later this year on Other People Records with more info on the way.

Having recently opened for acts like Bloc Party, The Lemonheads, Grouplove, and Bayside, Family Dinner will add the The Dirty Nil to that list as they join the band for three shows starting today in Boston, MA. From there, they’ll head out on a short US and Canada run with Latewaves. The band will join Can’t Swim at the House of Independents in Asbury Park, NJ on July 28th and then take their summer vibes down the east coast in mid-August. Full dates below.

Formed in 2018 in Long Beach, NY, Family Dinner are friends first and a band second. Living just a few miles apart, the group formed naturally when drummer Nick Amalfitano was jamming out with guitarist Michael O’Keeffe as Natalie hummed melodies while making dinner, and thus the band name came to be. Rounded out by bassist Sam Weiss, the band began crafting songs, released a few singles, and started playing shows at DIY spots within the tight-knit Long Island music scene. In 2021 the band released the EP, You’re So Cool, featuring four melodic tracks that pull from 90’s alternative rock and punk ethos. As Family Dinner continues to grow, having fun remains of key importance in the way the band creates and performs. With a new record on the way and touring in full effect, Family Dinner are on the cusp of being a must know act in the world of alternative rock and beyond.
