Flores Y Fuego Released Video For “Existir”

The newest member to the Pirates Press Records family, Mexico’s FLORES Y FUEGO, has released the third and final music video for “Existir” which comes from their debut LP “Altar.”

“Existir” is another prime example of why Flores Y Fuego has been capturing eyes and ears from around the world – the band’s hardcore/punk music mixed with frontwoman Melisa Diaz’s performance delivers another 2 minute track replete with social commentary. Diaz screams “Solo por existir / estamos condenados” (“Just for existing / we are doomed”), emphasizing how many people struggle to survive on a daily basis.

Fans have been clamoring to see Flores Y Fuego outside of their home country of Mexico and that wait is finally over!

This July marks the band’s first international tour as they will embark on a 2 week European tour including a slot on the famed Rebellion Fest! Additionally, the band will have copies of their exclusive Black & Gold Galaxy vinyl for sale at their merch table.

Leading up to release of this album, the band has already released videos for the singles “Soy Tu Voz” and “Muerde El Anzuelo.”

“Muerde El Anzuelo” is replete with socio-economic commentary about people who attempt to join a rank and file life only to have it swept out from under them by the powers that be.

This was the first song that guitarist Rafael Sotomayor wrote for the band in which he talks about doing what makes you happy and is a call to be yourself. “The song is about about the pressures that society, family, school, and more, try to impose to us as individuals, and sometimes consequences can be very sad where people end up with depression or even suicide,” says Sotomayor.

The band linked up with director Francisco II Suazo to create the video the old school, DIY way. They utilized analog camera effects to achieve the “ghost” effect to demonstrate the idea around the idea of confusion around the state of reality.

The band also released a video for “Soy Tu Voz,” the opener to the album and immediately sets the tone for the entire record. The song’s theme rings loud as the band represents the voice of many women who experience sexual assault while their attackers face no consequences.

With all of their songs entirely in Spanish, fans will instantly connect with “Altar,” proving once again that music is a universal language. With themes such as gender inequality, unjust violence, and so much more, the album still rings universally true no matter who listens to it.

“We talk about giving a voice to those who don’t have a voice, about existentialism, social discontent, being fed up, about how difficult adulthood is,” says Sotomayor.

Hailing from Guadalajara, the band have been making waves in the Mexican punk scene since early 2020. With the release of “Altar,” fans, journalists, and bands alike immediately took notice. Sonic Arsenal declared it a “hardcore gem” and stated that it is “forceful speech about gender violence, indifference, dignified rage…” Indierocks.mx proclaimed that the song “Soy tu voz” has “fury that cannot be contained.”

Not only have the press taken notice, artists have too. The band recently shared the stage with Amyl & The Sniffers as their main suppport – and this was no ordinary show. This was a sold out gig in their hometown where they blew the doors off and were able to make a ton of new fans!

Flores y Fuego are a hardcore punk band from Guadalajara, Mexico. Feeding on the anger and discontent of modern life, the band’s lyrical themes range from questioning their place in the world to providing a voice for the voiceless of society. They began to compose songs in the final days of 2019, as a collaboration between Rafael & Eduardo, previously of the band Cuchillo. By May of 2020, Melisa, the band’s frontwoman, put lyrics and soul to these instrumentals, and poured that attitude and energy into the band’s first demo recordings. The first demo, and further recording sessions while the world was on pause, would become this record – Altar. Flores y Fuego possess a powerful, raw punk sound, but they are a band that defies limitations. They infuse their music with outside influences and elements, and use their platform to speak from their experience of day-to-day life and its frustrations. They provide their point of view in the form of social critique from Melisa’s uniquely sharp perspective as a woman and an individual.

With all eyes seemingly on the hardcore scene over the past few years and new bands constantly making waves and tearing down the walls of what isn’t and isn’t hardcore – female fronted bands have stormed to the front offering a new vision, perspective and voice. Soy Tu Voz! (I Am Your Voice!) screams Melisa at the end of the first song declaring the arrival of Flores y Fuego as a force to be reckoned with and a band to be taken seriously.
