Texas progressive metalcore quintet Invent Animate recently released The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was 10″ record via UNFD, including three compositions from 2021. We covered this band with a couple of news posts about their upcoming album, but now it’s time to dig deep into this EP. It’s also good to mention that besides 10″ vinyl, this material is also available for listening at all streaming services. The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was is also their debut release on UNFD, which comes right after Cloud Cascade, their critically acclaimed standalone single released in 2019.

As I mentioned above, The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was carries three powerful compositions that serve as a perfect continuation of their previous works. The EP commences with The Sun Sleeps, a profoundly dynamic metalcore composition that serves as solid proof of Invent Animate‘s power, creativity, and musicianship. Unlike many metalcore bands out there, who usually rely upon simplistic sonic maneuvers, Invent Animate walks the road less traveled by incorporating many impressive melodies, harmonies, chord progressions, riffs, shreds, scales, and other mindblowing virtuosities. If you’re a newbie to this band, The Sun Sleeps might be a perfect introductory piece, because it possesses all the qualities of this band packed into one song.

, is an ambient track that serves as a separation between The Sun Sleeps and As If It Never Was. It’s built upon the rememberable piano theme, decorated by many layers of ear-pleasant soundscapes. Nearly the same theme leads us to As If It Never Was, which continues with the same intensity, aggression, and power as The Sun Sleeps. However, there’s more than meets the eye. Besides the fundamentals of contemporary metalcore sound, you’ll notice some of the best properties of progressive and post-metal. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some post-hardcore, alternative metal, and nu-metal along the way, because As If It Never Was carries some of those qualities as well. Invent Animate invested many brilliant ideas into this track, and their exceptional musicianship enhances it on an entirely new level.

You should check out The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was, because it carries many qualities of modern metalcore, but then again, it shines brighter than many recent releases. Head to UNFD for more information about ordering.
