Hyacinth” is the latest single by Kreajours, an Orlando-based alternative rock artist. It’s the second single in 2024 and an adequate follow-up to “False Promises,” another excellent composition released this year. Lyrically, “Hyacinth” is a fictional tale of unrequited love between a young man and a prostitute. Perhaps the artist almost solely relies upon the fundamentals of alternative rock, but you’ll also notice how some other music genres found their way into this fine piece of sonic artistry. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some of the finest properties borrowed from shoegaze, grunge, garage rock, psych-rock indie rock, noise pop, and lo-fi music. Kreajours uses these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift this composition on an entirely new level, while he simultaneously remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with additional styles resulted in a catchy, ear-appealing alternative rock song that will appeal to even the pickiest listeners.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how Kreajours thought about everything while assembling the song structure and working on all the segments. He considered all the possibilities and carefully implemented even the tiniest details and nuances, so his song could shine bright in the limelight. Of course, the lead vocal performance serves as a centerpiece, guiding the listener through every section of the song, but also emphasizing all those segments and instrumentations. The harmonies glide over low, mid, and high notes, offering more than necessary complexity. In the meantime, guitars shine with raw, abrasive, fuzzy, heavily distorted chord progressions, melodies, themes, and leads, serving as an adequate backdrop for all the vocal articulations. The subtle touches of reverb effect on vocals and guitar give that recognizable echoic sound, usually notable on shoegaze recordings. This song wouldn’t sound this powerful without equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines that offer heaviness, depth, and clarity, but also serve as a binding element between guitars and drums. Kreajours also thought about the rhythm section, so drumming performance dictates groove and pace with moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Every instrument sounds top-notch from scratch to finish, making “Hyacinth” such a pleasant listening experience.

This song is more than rock-solid proof that Kreajours doesn’t joke around with his music. He implemented so many brilliant ideas into this track, and his skillful instrumental performance backs up all of them from beginning to end. The perfectly dosed combination of alternative, shoegaze, grunge, garage, noise, and lo-fi makes “Hyacinth” one of the best tracks this year, and you should immediately put it on your radar. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
