Sisu by Loki’s Folly is one of those full-length albums you need to check out immediately if you’re into raw, relentless, aggressive, punk rock sound. Annie (guitar and vocals), Nissa (drums and vocals), and Oskar (bass guitar) wrote, composed, and recorded twelve excellent compositions that will appeal to even the pickiest fans of the genre. As soon as you put a needle on this vinyl record, you’ll notice a thick layer of aggressive orchestrations lurking around, something you could stumble upon by listening to classic punk rock, garage punk, post-punk, or art-punk groups. However, there are even more layers lurking around that define such a powerful sound of Loki’s Folly.

Maybe Sisu is their debut full-length album, and they’re a young punk rock group, but Loki’s Folly showcase all their skill, talent, and musicianship in these twelve songs. You’ll notice some impressive sonic maneuvers and rhythmic acrobatics, something you could expect from a much-experienced punk rock bands. Their approach to punk rock, garage rock, post-rock, and art-punk sounds fresh and unique, and it’s surprising how their compositions resonate with some fresh and unique dynamics, energy, power, and ambiance. Of course, many bands explored these music genres before, and it’s nearly impossible to reinvent the wheel, but Loki’s Folly’s music stands out from the remainder of the post-punk scene due to their ability to approach the aesthetics of the genre in a very different way.

You’ll immediately notice that powerful lead vocal harmonies are the centerpiece of every number, but it’s good to mention that back vocal segments and singalongs play a significant role as well. Of course, you’ll stumble upon impressive chord progressions, powerful riffs, catchy melodies, themes, leads, and other virtuosities performed on heavily distorted guitars. These generous amounts of raw distortion might remind some readers of something early nineties grunge bands used to incorporate in their works, but Loki’s Folly leans much more towards plain punk rock sound. The equally complex basslines provide more than necessary density and clarity to the ambiance but also serve as a binding element between guitars and profoundly dynamic rhythmic sequences based upon well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. The entire band sounds top-notch from scratch to finish, and you’ll hardly notice any weak moments in their music performance. Therefore, Sisu is an excellent full-length album by a promising young punk band that unquestionably demands your utmost attention.
