At last, Los Angeles band Object of Affection’s highly awaited debut album Field of Appearances will be unleashed upon the world Friday via Profound Lore. To set the scene, the band has just released a new single and clip, called “Run Back”.

Object of Affection, comprised of guitarist Madison Woodward (Fury, Lock), guitarist Remy Veselis (Death Bells), vocalist Colin Knight, bassist Garrett La Bonte (La Bonte), and drummer Nick Nadel, indulges in gloomy punk, forlorn new wave, and down-and-out Reagan-era alt rock: “Not as pastiche, but in sonic kinship to the austerity and fatalism embedded in the previous generation’s desperate and dejected anthems,” the band clarifies.

The track’s introspective lyrics explore the trials and tribulations of the game of romance – namely, dropping the karmic cycle of nonsense and hurt – and taking the more daunting path to recovery. Falling in love with oneself is key to being able to fully give your heart to another.

The accompanying video, directed by Jeremy Stith (Fury) is a lovely performance piece with moments of epiphany illustrated by light bulbs illuminating a figure in the dark.

Watch below:

Field Of Appearances‘ ten songs explore themes of reflection, insufficiency, and déjà vu. With this collection of songs, Object of Affection tap into the primitivism of its members’ diverse individual projects while elevating their capacity for atmosphere and melody. With the inclusion of drum machines, synthesizers, acoustic guitars, and auxiliary percussion, Field of Appearances highlights the band’s sophisticated evolution and experimentation.

Field of Appearances was meticulously crafted with Grammy-nominated producer Alex Newport (Bloc Party, At The Drive-In), emerging engineer Phillip Odom and features contributions from Bre Morell (Temple of Angels, Crushed) and Brittney Beppu.
