The award-winning Dayton, Ohio-based roots rock band Ludlow Creek released a new single called “The Catacombs.” Once again, the band teamed up with award-winning lyricist Ray Monell, who wrote lyrics for their previous hits, “Stoney Lonesome Road” and “Last Call.” Soundwise, Ludlow Creek combines singer-songwriter aesthetics with some of the finest properties borrowed from complementary music genres like Americana, country, classic rock, and folk rock. Perhaps classic rock comes to mind first while listening to this exceptional number, but all these additional elements serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that uplift “The Catacombs” on an entirely new level. However, the band incorporated all these sonic ingredients without spoiling the initial sonic direction.

As soon as you press play, you’ll immediately notice that the band thoroughly planned everything while writing, composing, recording, and producing this number. Monell’s inspiration for the song came from a visit to The Catacombs of Paris, so the lyrics are meaningful and contemplative. His storytelling lyricism perfectly suits outstanding vocal harmonies that skillfully balance low, mid, and high notes during every segment. It’s also good to mention that the back vocals play a significant role because they emphasize particular segments and enhance the catchiness of the song. The cleverly assembled acoustic and semi-distorted guitars serve as a backdrop for these vocal maneuvers, while the equally complex low-end notes provide more heaviness, depth, and clarity. This composition wouldn’t sound this good without superb drumming performance based upon moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics.

Each band member plays a crucial role in shaping the cathartic atmosphere that will appeal to even the pickiest fans of the aforementioned genres. Still, “The Catacombs” will also appeal to the newbies to these genres, as Ludlow Creek’s latest single carries some of the best vocal harmonies, melodies, chord progressions, basslines, and rhythmic sequences you’ll hear this year. Another detail that makes “The Catacombs” a standout is the production. The band invested so much attention while recording, producing, and mastering, so you’ll notice even the tiniest notes, articulations, accentuations, and other details while listening to this ear-appealing classic rock song. Ludlow Creek demands your utmost attention because they showcase all the experience, creativity, talent, brilliant ideas, and exceptional musicianship from scratch to finish. “The Catacombs” will instantly become your favorite classic rock track this year. The single is available on all streaming services.
