After several outstanding standalone singles, such as Acqua Macabre, I Don’t Believe You, and Ritual, and two critically acclaimed full-lengths like self-titled debut and Acqua Macabre, Van Nuys-based trio MAL returns with another jaw-dropping composition that will unquestionably appeal to all the fans of progressive music. The sound of MAL is undoubtedly hard to define with a singular music genre because these highly experienced musicians showcased many styles throughout the entire track. The early to mid-nineties grunge comes to mind first, but these folks also incorporated crucial elements of alternative, progressive rock, art rock, and post-hardcore. Come To Light is more than solid proof of how all these styles harmoniously work together, and you’ll hardly find any other band doing this style as MAL does.

You’ll be blown away by the ideas and musicianship of these guys. MAL sounds spectacular from scratch to finish, without any weak moments. They continuously experiment with their leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, chord progressions, riffs, and solos, so it’ll take a couple of listens before you grasp everything MAL placed in this song. Besides impressive guitar virtuosities, you’ll also notice jaw-dropping low-end tones perfectly assembled to fit the progressive rock ambiance. The skillful drummer arranged all the rhythmic sequences according to the beforementioned virtuosities. His performance ranges from classic beats to more complex segments enhanced by time signature changes, continuous splashes over the cymbals, various accentuations, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. The lead vocals also match these otherwordly orchestrations with high-pitched harmonies. Without his performance, Come To Light wouldn’t sound the same. MAL put a lot of time and ideas into this composition, and the effort paid off in an outstanding track that will appeal to your listening apparatus, no matter if you’re a grunge or progressive rock fan. Come To Light is available on all streaming platforms.
