It’s been a while since I received an email including an electronic press kit for this release, and since then, I have been curious to hear more. Their CD arrived about a couple of days ago, and since today is the official release date, it’s more than an appropriate occasion to write something about it. Satan’s Cats is a relatively new band formed by members of Satan’s Rats with the addition of Puss Johnson on the lead vocals. For those who might not know, Satan’s Rats are a classic ’77. British punk rock band that used to open for Sex Pistols about forty years ago, while Puss Johnson is known for her work with Pussycat And The Dirty Johnsons. This self-titled EP release is their collaborative work, which I would like to talk about a little bit more today.

This material will be right up your alley if you’re looking for that classic UK sound because this CD carries everything you dearly love about the particular wave of punk rock music. Of course, this material comes with a modern sound that meets all the trends of contemporary music production. Satan’s Cats solely rely upon some of those sonic maneuvers usually heard in the works of the bands who roamed the punk scene from the mid-seventies to mid-eighties. Some experienced ears might notice generous servings of garage rock and rock’n’roll lurking around, and you wouldn’t be wrong because this material also shines bright with those qualities. Perhaps you’ll also stumble upon the finest properties of other complementary music genres. There are plenty of them involved, but punk rock, garage, and rock’n’roll are the most dominant ones in the mix.

The entire band emits tremendous energy from scratch to finish. You’ll immediately notice how Johnsons’s powerful voice perfectly fits these orchestrations. The band relies upon three to four-chord progressions and catchy riffs, which have always been a staple in classic punk rock sound. There are also some guitar solos that might resemble something rockabilly, psychobilly, rock’n’roll, and surf rock bands would include in their songs. Of course, vividly hearable basslines are one of the main characteristics of classic punk rock, and this material wouldn’t sound this good without these low-end tones. The exceptional drumming performance keeps everything in line with profoundly dynamic rhythmic sequences, accentuations, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. This material carries all the creativity and experience these musicians earned over the years, and you’ll love each of the five compositions included on this CD. Speaking of the CD, the first run is ultra-limited so act fast. Head over to their Bandcamp page to order your copy.
