The thought-provoking Phoenix-based solo electronic outfit Simulated Youth debuts a futuristic, dark dance track entitled NBT, off their Just Your EP EP.
Rife with chaotic breaks, ethereal drops, and clever arrangements, and boasting a sound evoking Alice Glass, Bjork, Catnapp, The Knife, Aphex Twin, and Die Antwoord, NBT balances the emotion of the track between light and dark, ultimately providing a fun and original sound invoking deep thoughts as listeners dance.
The mastermind of Simulated Youth, Zach, describes the lyrics as being about the song itself being in love with the artist, yet to the artist, the song is just their ‘nice bass track.’ “This is meant to take a mirrored perspective of the common obsession various artists have with their own work,” he explains.
The vocals were performed remotely from San Salvador by El Salvadorean singer Camoragi. The EP features three versions of the song: one with Camoragi’s vocals, one with original, fully synthesized vocals, and one instrumental. The titles are plays on words: The three letters stand for “Nice Bass Track.” “Just Your” is a play on the chorus lyrics, “I’m just your NBT, just your nice bass track.” Instrumentals & samples were recorded, mixed and mastered by Zach in Phoenix, AZ.
“This EP is largely motivated by a cyberpunk or retro-digital aesthetic,” says Zach. “The upcoming music video will emphasize this in a fully virtual (no live shots) format.”
Simulated Youth recently released the music video for Money in My Tummy, a goofy yet hopefully thought-provoking track about on wealth obsession around the world.
