Self Destruct” is the latest single by The Trusted, Southend-on-Sea band that deserves your utmost attention. It’s their first standalone single, arriving as an adequate follow-up of “Lost Soul,” an outstanding EP released earlier this year. Soundwise, The Trusted combines many different but complementary music genres to illustrate such rich and luxurious sonic imagery. They incorporate the fundamentals of indie music with some of the finest properties borrowed from punk rock, garage rock, and alternative, but don’t be surprised if you stumble upon many other styles along the way. These additional elements serve as more than necessary enhancements that unquestionably uplift their music on a completely new level while the band simultaneously remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with different but complementary sonic ingredients resulted in a magnificent number that will appeal to anyone looking for punk rock-infused indie music. Still, you should check out this track even if you’re a newbie to the mentioned genres because The Trusted pour heart and soul into their music.

As soon as you press play, you’ll hear how they fire tremendous power, energy, and dynamics from every possible direction. These folks mean business and aren’t afraid to showcase all the sonic weaponry in their arsenal. The singer commands attention by offering expertly sung vocal harmonies. His outstanding performance based upon clean and distorted shouts emphasizes everything The Trusted tried to achieve with this track while the perfect balance between low, mid, and high notes decorates all the segments and instrumentations with such ease. You’ll hear how the guitars play a significant role in shaping a raw, abrasive, fuzzy ambiance. The heavily distorted chord progressions and riffs arrive as a colossal wall of sound, tearing everything in a broader radius. It’s nearly mindblowing how this particular instrument resonates with power, rawness, and aggression from scratch to finish but also sounds harmonious and melodic at the same time. The Trusted also incorporated subtle, reverby leads at the calmer moments, adding a touch of complexity to their sound.

The band also thought about the rhythm section, so the equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines roar right beneath the guitar layers, providing more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. Besides acting as an enormous support for the guitars, these low-ends also bind the mentioned orchestrations with drums. Of course, “Self Destruct” wouldn’t sound this good without exceptional drumming performance. The drummer shines with cleverly arranged, energetic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. He dictates groove and pace, but also keeps the remainder of the band in line. Everything sounds top-notch from scratch to finish, and it’s more than obvious these outstanding musicians have poured all their experience, knowledge, skills, talent, and ideas into their latest single. “Self Destruct” resonates with all the qualities of indie rock music, but The Trusted added that special punk rock touch to it, so it sounds abrasive and melodic at the same time. It’s one of the best indie tracks this year, and you surely don’t want to miss it. You should also put The Trusted on your radar and keep track of their activities because I am more than positively sure they will unleash more great music in the future. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
