Austin, TX-based band TV’s Daniel have today shared ‘Usual Students‘, the latest single taken from their debut album ‘Never Change‘, out on September 22nd via Wild Honey Records.

Lead singer Daniel Fried recalls: “‘Usual Students’ was the last song written for the album. The rest of the songs were done, but I wrote this the night before we started mixing, and had to add it. I went into the studio the next day and recorded all of the instruments myself and had Lisa sing a duet with me. The song summarizes how I felt about my time in college. Seven years of stress and uncertainty, anonymity and excitement. A time in my life when I had endless possibilities to choose from, and I decided on music as my path. It’s one of my favorites from the album. A simple pop song with drum machines, acoustics, and a lot of fuzz pedals. Initially, I was trying to do something in the style of Liz Phair, but it turned out a little more Oasis mixed with GBV with some familiar Tommy James thrown in”.

TV’s Daniel formed in 2017, igniting a new punk ethos era that Austin, TX so deeply yearned for. Daniel Fried is no stranger to music, playing in bands such as Bad Sports, Radioactivity, and VIDEO. After years of collaborating with other people, Daniel decided he wanted to create his own band, his own sound, with his own principles. Reminiscent of British pop anthems and eighties opulent rock, TV’s Daniel was formed. Chris Prorock rips heavy drum beats, Jason Smith (OBN III’s) Ryan Fitzgibbon (Porcelain) and Mike Garrido (OBN III’s, Baxu) each make their own unique sound on guitar, while Lisa Alley (The Well) shreds bass and offers her perfectly pitched harmonies when given the chance. Throughout TV’s Daniel’s amplified simple chord structures, they seamlessly navigate the devastation of love, the influence of sex and the power of failing upwards. For all intents and purposes, Daniel Fried assembled a band, but through TV’s Daniel,  he’s created a musical freedom that finally feels obtainable for the rest of us.
