Subunderground Compulsive Agitation’s latest release, Compulsive Agitation, is an excellent 7″ EP compilation featuring six songs from five bands, including the Rhi & The Relics, Krust Worthy, Waste, Scoundrels, and Ford’s Fuzz Inferno. With four of the six tracks previously unreleased, this compilation is fresh and full of exciting punk rock music.

Krust Worthy starts the record with Protect And Serve, a song that sets the tone for the remainder of this fine piece of plastic. With a crust punk sound reminiscent of bands like Discharge and Doom, Krust Worthy delivers a powerful statement on societal issues. The song is raw and uncompromising, with crunchy riffs and pounding rhythm sequences. The band shows tremendous musicianship with their relentless energy and solid songwriting. Next up is Waste with Everything Is Grey. Their early eighties hardcore sound is still intact and full of angst and driving beats. The track reflects on the monotony of daily life. The guitar riff is infectious, while the vocals are raw and emotional. Scoundrels is another revived Dutch outfit offering Reptile Brain, a composition that brings straightforward punk rock to the forefront. The song boasts a simple but effective guitar riff that provides the backdrop for the powerful vocals. The band hits hard with their rhythm section, bringing raw power and aggression.

Krust Worthy’s second track, Sab The Hunters, is filled with anger and frustration. Their crust punk sound is again on full display, with harsh vocals and gritty guitars creating an oppressive atmosphere. This number deals with animal rights and environmentalism issues, and their sonic delivery is nothing short of relentless. Ford’s Fuzz Inferno bring their unique take on punk rock with A Messed Up Situation. The song is full of fuzz, with a driving rhythm that keeps the listener on edge. Their second track on this compilation deals with societal issues, and their delivery is straightforward and to the point. Rhi & The Relics close out the record with Urban Disease. Their old-school punk sound is full of dynamics, rage, and attitude. The riff is catchy and memorable, and the vocals are powerful and emotive. Some readers may notice some similarities with bands like Vice Squad, Action Pact, The Mob, Poison Girls, or Crass, and the track is a fitting closure to this raw and edgy compilation.

Overall, Compulsive Agitation is a fantastic EP release that showcases the strength and diversity of the old school DIY punk scene. Each band brings its unique sound and style, creating a compilation full of energy and attitude. Krust Worthy, Waste, Scoundrels, Ford’s Fuzz Inferno, and Rhi & The Relics deserve your attention because their dedication to the craft and years of experience play a significant role throughout the entire release. Therefore, head to Waste’s Bandcamp page and grab this punk rock gem.
