Keaton’s incarnation of Batman is making a return to Gotham City for Batman ’89. However, this Bruce Wayneisn’t the only familiar face resurfacing in the new series.
Earlier this week, DC Comics announced Batman ’89, a new 12 chapter series that is a continuation of Keaton’s version of Batman and his fight against crime in Burton’s take on Gotham City. The digital-first series will continue to explore characters already established in this Batman era including Michelle Pfeiffer‘s Catwoman. As well, it will also introduce other legacy villains and characters, including a new Robin, as they would’ve appeared in the original Burton films.
For Batman ’89, screenwriter Sam Hamm (Batman, Batman Returns) and artist Joe Quinones (Dial H for Hero) pulled a number of inspirations from Burton. Together, Batman fans will finally be able to revisit Burton’s gothic world across various glossy pages full of new stories and faces.
The first six chapters of Batman ’89 will be released digitally on July 27. After that, the following six issues will be put out one at a time on a weekly basis. DC plans to compile all of these chapters into six physical comic books that will be released between August and October. As well, a hardcover collection edition is due out in October.
