La idea de Espartaco el gladiador rebelde se ha sostenido a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad. La figura del débil, del oprimido levantándose contra un enemigo poderoso y casi sin oportunidades ha mantenido la llama de la esperanza por la libertad en casi todo occidente, por lo menos como un símbolo. Poco sabemos de él como persona, pero si sabemos de su ideal que ningún imperio pudo borrarlo. Inclusive el poco registro de sus hazañas las han registrado sus enemigos vencedores, y es por esto que nos llegan hoy en día a nosotros. Y su nombre lo han retomado muchas veces en estos últimos siglos, desde la Liga Espartaquista en Alemania, como la Alianza Obrera Espartaco acá en Argentina, pasando por obras literarias, cine, tv o teatro. La letra de esta canción pretender retomar su historia, interpretar su idea y mantenerla vigente. A su vez también homenajear al gran Kirk Douglas fallecido el mes pasado quien interpretó a Espartaco en la película de Stanley Kubrick de 1960.

The idea of Spartacus, the rebellious gladiator, has been sustained throughout human history. The figure of the weak, of the oppressed rising against a powerful and almost opportunityless enemy has held the flame of hope for freedom in a big part of Occident/West World, at least as a symbol. Little do we know about him as a person, but we do know about his ideal that no empire could erase. Even the little record of their feats has been recorded by their victorious enemies, and this is why they come to us today. And its name has been taken up many times in recent centuries, from the Spartacus League in Germany, such as the “Alianza Obrera Espartaco” (Spartacus Worker Alliance) here in Argentina, through literary works, movies, TV or theater. The lyrics of this song try to resume its history, interpret its idea and keep it alive. In turn also honor the great Kirk Douglas who passed away last month who played Spartacus in Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 film.
