murder by progressive neglect (a hate5six film)

murder by progressive neglect. is a short film about the generational and ancestral obligation to do what’s right. It’s produced in memory of Phil, Merle and Delbert Africa of the MOVE 9, all of whom were murdered by medical neglect within the prison system.

Using a combination of archival footage and coverage from the March 12, 2021 rally in front of Philly DA Larry Krasner’s office, the goal of this piece is threefold:

1. Educate people about the historical context of Mumia Abu-Jamal’s story in relation to the 1978 & 1985 MOVE shooting & bombing by the City of Philadelphia. For more context watch “40 Years A Prisoner” (Tommy Oliver), “Let the Fire Burn” (Jared Osder), “35 Years” (hate5six)

2. Raise awareness about Mumia’s grave medical condition and C*-19 diagnosis which leaves him vulnerable to murder by medical neglect

3. Expose Philly’s “progressive District Attorney” Larry Krasner as the self-appointed Judas in the ongoing attempt to execute a revolutionary Black journalist, and NPR’s vile audacity to write an obituary for Mumia rather than cover his ongoing appeals and medical condition

There is no neutral side in the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal. If you are not advocating for his release, both in light of his medical condition and mountains of existing and recent exculpatory evidence, then you are complicit in allowing the state to get away with murdering one of the most important Black voices in history.
