Despite the weather and an undercover cop trying (and failing) to disrupt today’s rally, a message was delivered loud and clear to Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, Governor Tom Wolf, and the Department of Corrections: the people demand the immediate and unconditional release of Mumia Abu-Jamal so he can seek medical attention for COVID-19. This call applies to all incarcerated elders over the age of 50. The prison system is using COVID as a form of execution by failing to adequately address the conditions in which incarcerated people are forced to live, as well as preventing the release of the most vulnerable. This is both a human rights and public health concern.
