Released back in 2019, Controversial Echoes of Nihilism provides twenty blasts of a fairly predictable, yet very powerful style of heavy grind, combined with plenty of blast beats and guttural screams. Sick!
This four-piece hails from the Saguenay-Lac St-Jean region of Québec and this full-length is a great listen front to back. Grindcore is definitely the main ingredient here, but there’s more added to it, so it doesn’t get boring unlike many examples of the genre.
I could sense some powerviolence, death metal and chaotic hardcore influences, and maybe some hints of the likes of Full of Hell or Pig Destroyer, but don’t necessarily take my word for it, listen to it for yourself: The sound is focused, brutal and tight, but not generic, which is often a challenge in modern metal derivatives. The skits are exciting and to the point. There’s not much more I can say about it, honestly!
One single remark I would make reviewing this album is that I’d like to read the lyrics of the songs (something Lovecraftian maybe?), which are not available neither on Bandcamp, nor the actual CD. If you like powerful grindcore—go check Chadhel and thank me later.
