This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Minor Threat song “Straight Edge”, originally pressed on vinyl for the first time in June, 1981.

Today, Straight Edge can be both a movement and a personal thing. It can be a positive force or a toxic social club. It can embrace all sorts of radicalism, conformism, reactionary ideas, or anything in between. Since the turn of the new century, Straight Edge has also entered the mainstream culture in various unexpected ways. But whatever you might think of it, Straight Edge has stood the test of time… and it’s most definitely here to stay!
