In Fear We Trust, released via a “coalition of grindcore labels worldwide”, is a 3-way one-sided LP featuring Poland’s Psychoneurosis, Poland/UK based Herida Profunda (“Deep Wound” in English), and the Netherlands’ Suffering Quota.

The record kicks off with Psychoneurosis covering the Extreme Noise Terror classic “Believe What I Say”. The band plays it pretty straight with this cover but the wailing guitars they add breathe a little bit more life into their version. Their original contribution “Where Are We Heading” grinds away with precision and brutality, with the dual vocals tearing chunks out of the waves of buzzing guitars.

Herida Profunda’s section was recorded live at 161 Festival in Warsaw and sounds pretty good with that considered. Providing four raging tracks to the record, they power through material from their upcoming release, starting incredibly fast with intense blast beats and deep guttural vocals, before slowing down the pace a little allowing space for their grooves and rhythms to shine through the sheer speed of it all. Finishing with a live rendition of “Alerta 161!”, clearly a crowd favourite from the sing along that can be heard on this version, they manage to pull off a breakdown between the bouts of unstoppable pace that fit into just 38 seconds, which is an admirable achievement and could be why it’s so popular!

Dutch grinders Suffering Quota begin their section with “Rage”, an alternative version of “Anger” from their recent release “Life in Disgust”, either way it’s a title that fits the incendiary brutal nature of the track. Their second track and record closer “Bastardized Yesterday”, has so many layers of harsh vocals near the beginning it sounds like a pack of feral dogs, they grind their way through the crusted out piece before slowing right down bringing the record to its sludgy end.

All three of these bands complement each other’s sound and with a mix of old, new and cover songs, this is one of the year’s essential grindcore releases.
