Kebranti are another band from Brazil’s very strong crustgrind and mincecore scene, which has been thriving since the ’90s and is currently experiencing a strong momentum. One of the most promising acts in these niche circles (IN CRUST WE GRIND), they self-released a new EP on May 19th. Containing nine extremely brutal and honest songs, well mixed and mastered by Tiago Mulumbo at Metamorfosis Studios after a series of splits, an LP, a debut self-titled EP and a very good single.

Recorded at Caverna Produceos, who record, produce and give a platform to a lot of underground and DIY bands in Brazil, the EP is called Terrorfilia and offers more of the same violent and raw mince grind noise madness the band has been unleashing on this sick world since their 2020’s self-titled album, but with improved technique, anti-systemic lyrics and a more vicious sound. The album artwork is a beautiful rendition of Francisco de Goya’s gruesome classic Saturn Devouring His Own Son, which fits perfectly with the themes and overall dark atmosphere of the EP.

Wicked crustcore riffs by Anderson Baros and the brutal, gruesome high/low vocals of Dario Henrique provide Warsore-like moments of pure transcendental chaos, with occasional death metal/deathgrind influences adding variety to the release’s sound. The ever thrashing blastbeat madness of drummer Hallyson Araújo is always present throughout the record, he is as good as the best mincecore drummers, reaching high speeds without wearing out quickly, and in the slow parts he is as groovy as ever. As the band themselves say, this is the best line-up they have had since their inception, and that definitely shows on the new Terrorfilia EP.

The lyrics about rejecting religious indoctrination, the injustices and inhumanity of war, and general anarchist anti-system, anti-state, anti-society sentiments are no surprise to any mince/crust fan out there. They are short but effectively written rants of deep class hatred for the powerful owners of capital with a touch of misanthropy here and there. They sing in their native Brazilian Portuguese, which is always great for non-English speaking bands, defying the Eurocentric linga francua. Kebranti’s decision to sing entirely in their own, still colonized but full of local dialect, is a brave one, and they still manage to connect with the broader international DIY grind scene and have done splits with foreign bands like Corrodent.

This EP is them at their own peak and the band’s entire catalog is a beast, any mincegrind/crust enthusiast like myself will surely enjoy it thoroughly and should support them on their official Bandcamp page, as Kebranti seem to be one of the most promising bands in mincecore and have been making a good name for themselves in these circles for the last three years. They will surely bring us more NOISE NOT MUSIC greatness and we can’t wait.
