Following the critically-acclaimed release of their 3rd album ‘North East Coastal Town’ (19 August) – which scored a career-best number 6 in the Indie Album Chart – and a triumphant homecoming album launch show, LIFE return with ‘Shipping Forecast’ – one of the stand out tracks on the record.

Fittingly, for an album about Hull, it’s geography and it’s people, this track centres on the city’s illustrious ship building and seafaring history.

The term ‘North East Coastal Town’ was the name given to Hull during the Blitz in World War II when the government wished to conceal the damage to the strategically significant port to avoid damaging morale.

Speaking on the single, singer Mez Green:

“The ‘Shipping Forecast’ is a track that is awash with Hull’s nautical heritage. The music channels the power of the waves somewhere between Dogger and Humber.

It’s an urgent and powerful track that grapples with the need to get home and pins themes of toxic social media and control to its mast.

The track was one of the first to be written from North East Coastal Town and its energy and mood very much set the scene of our recording process.”

The single is accompanied by a new track, Hull Sky, which is also out today – the song was written during the recording session for North East Coastal Town but has its own sound going on, less intimate, vast and lyrical but it has bite and love etched into its DNA.

Mez says:

“Hull Sky sneers, stomps and powers along with themes of romance. Whilst it didn’t quite fit the feel of North East Coastal Town, we’re excited to release it as the B-Side to one of our favourite songs off the new album.”
