I am really happy that I got introduced to this killer band by Philip at Contraszt! Records and that it’s finally got a proper vinyl release, which will probably make it easier for more folks like me and you to experience the fierceness and absolute raw power of POSY’s Bongga Ka Dai!
Originally self-released on tape in 2021 by the band, this album contains seven pissed-off angry noise punk tracks, each of which is absolutely brilliant, I kid you NOT!
POSY is a band from Olympia, WA. I’ve always been intrigued by the brutal quantities of quality punk bands that come from this small town in the United States. I don’t know what happens there, is it something in the water? It just seems Olympia oozes absolutely brilliant bands ever since Beat Happening, probably even earlier.
Bongga Ka Dai gives the inevitable Riot Grrrl association and is generally executed in the best tradition of bands like Bikini Kill, Cerce, Huggy Bear, G.L.O.S.S., and all the early ‘90s DIY Olympia punk goodness. The tunes are inventive, fresh, crunchy and aggressive, the vocals and lyrics—abrasive and uncomfortable. Absolutely glorious sound too! Bongga Ka Dai was recorded and mixed by Joey Seward at Left Field and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air. They did a good job!
The whole album transports me back to my teenage room in the late ‘90s, blasting Bratmobile and Babes in Toyland tapes, dreaming of setting this whole damn world on fire!
