Simple Minded Symphony- S/T Album Review

Early this week Simple Minded Symphony’s 3 album dropped. Seriously check out their old work, shit’s amazing. My coming across this amazing Seattle Emo Steady (term coined by JER that’s a blend of mathy Midwestern emo and early ska beat) was strangely accidental. I was watching a Ska Punk International update video and I heard this beautifully amazing matthy ska part but I didn’t hear the band’s name correctly so it was several months later that they showed up on my newsreel with promo about the Feather single. The band’s name immediately clicked and I checked out the track. Holy fuckin shit is that track amazing! Feather owns an acre of rent free space in my head. Musically it’s better than I even understand and it’s the happiest song about clinical depression I’ve ever heard, it’s been therapeutic for me. And the singer, I think their name is Kevin, drops some mind blowing bass work that should make everyone take notice along with vocals that remind me of the oldies motown Era in the tone and deep feeling. The outro of this track goes into a Tijuana Brass (y’all brass nerds need to check them out) Latin jazz thing. This is the second track on the album. Over It is a solid opener. The whole album is solid but feather left so much of an impact on me that I’m still getting to know the other songs. Though I wanna highlight Overcast. Firstly, check out the video because it’s fuckin dark.bthe track is fuckin fire. It’s like mathy ska core which is simply my favorite music to ever exist. Kevin’s vocals sound more deat rock and it hella works. Then everyone’s insanely talented instrumental work on the gnarly instrumentals throughout this track is just beautifully aggressive. So buy and blast this album loud enough that your neighbors can have an informed opinion about it.
