Gothenburg’s raw punks Skrot indulge in unashamed Swedish kängpunk-worship, resulting in fast and uncompromising material that’s choke-full of distorted, brain-drilling guitars, throat-wrecking growls, and galloping d-beats executed in a piledriving fashion. Not bad for a group of only three people.
The average song length is about minute and a half, but this is more than enough to properly fill your ears with the kind of raw and pounding Swedish sound one might expect to find here. However, although pounding that kängnäve, Skrot aren’t interested in simply replicating their country’s most acclaimed releases.
Their blown-out and rabble-rousing mayhem will certainly also appeal to international crust legions, finding similarities to bands like Excrement of War, Stàte of Feär, Visions of War, early Vorhees and plenty of other besides. Other reviews even mentioned US legends Warcry (the ones with members of Tragedy) as a point of reference. Already stoked? Don’t go in looking for musicianship but expect plenty of distortion, plenty of grunt, and swathes of frosty Scandinavian hardcore. Who knows, maybe we need more bands like that in these grim and desperate times?
