“We have all played in several bands since the ’90s (or early ’00s if you are a sweet child like Calle) and at this point in time I had not been in a band for a few years. When asked to join, I wanted to add something new to the table. I knew what it was like to sing in Swedish and English, but I had never yet tried my creativity in Polish. I soon realized that my voice was different in Polish, my attack was different. So we explored this further. On a personal level this has been a trip into the past, going back to my many years in the ’90s when learning Polish in Poland as a student, as a punk in a country that just experienced years of totalitarian rule and I re-experienced years that were very formative to me.”, explains the band’s origins singer Ninka.

Śmierć’s debut Godzina Pusta came out in 2017 through the legendary label Nikt Nic Nie Wie, subverting the sounds and lyricism of cult Polish bands like Dezerter, Post Regiment, and Homomilitia, as well as the poetry of Wisława Szymborska and Ewa Maria Demarczyk. On their second album Paranoja, released in 2021, Śmierć made a lasting impression on everyone who liked their first record. The band has been working hard on finding their own sound and adding even more depth to the songs. With the unbeatable Polish legacy of some of the most original punk rock ever produced and the Swedish d-beat in their DNA, Śmierć have perfected a sound that is not just a passing moment in modern punk music.

The band is getting better and better with each recording, so we feel honored and really excited to share the premiere of Śmierć’s new single “Prawda” here at DIY Conspiracy!

“This song was recorded in a time when we’re experiencing the rise of fascism in Sweden—in a time when fear is the right wing’s weapon of choice. ”Stop fooling around, it’s the truth” are the words in the chorus. It’s so easy to start acting out in a way that benefits the fascist agenda, and in this song we suggest an option. And an invitation to togetherness.”, comments the band about the song.

“Prawda” and two more new Śmierć songs were recorded, mixed and mastered by Jocke from Wolfbrigade in his studio in Stockholm during a couple of evenings in May 2022. The video is made by Krisse (Kristoffer Holden Axiö). The main footage is filmed by Sanna Johannesson during a small intimate gig for our close ones, with some additional live footage filmed by Truda Hagberg and Miss Nöjd fanzine during some gigs the band made in the summer of 2022.

“Prawda” will be available on streaming platforms this Sunday, November 20th.
