Athens, Greece grinders Vile Species are amongst the most active and dedicated folks in their local scene, spitting tracks and releases with furious power. They’ve been keeping busy after their 2020 self-titled album and 2021 split with Bulgarian grindcore powerhouse Razgruha, released on tape by Kontingent Records. The next logical step in their endeavors is now complete—a full length capturing the band’s own brand of chainsaw riffs and piercing vocals!
Vile Species’ new album Against the Values of Civilization is out now and already making rounds in the local underground. This release consists of 15 killer tracks with politically charged lyrics and boy, do they sound pissed!
Against the Values of Civilization was recorded, mixed and mastered by David Prudent at Made in Hell Studio and it seems that a whole new level in terms of sound and execution was achieved. The production is definitely tighter and more aggressive and the vocals cut through the mix nicely. While Vile Species didn’t change their approach to songwriting dramatically, I feel they have passed some kind of cornerstone of their own with this one!
The result is monolithic, driving and to the point with lyrical themes revolving around topics like capitalism, coexistence, poverty, hypocrisy and so on. Combined with a striking artwork done by Lethargos, Against the Values of Civilization definitely ticks all the boxes.
