Given that both of these characters are from past Spider-Man films, many speculate that Spider-Man 3 will be full of familiar faces including Garfield and Maguire. More recently, a 4chan leak may have spilled the entire plot to Spider-Man 3. According to the leak, the new film is called Spider-Man: Homeworlds.
Throughout the film, Spider-Man allegedly faces the repercussions of Scarlet Witch opening the multiverse at the end of WandaVision. Eventually, this causes Holland to unite with Garfield and Maguire’s Peter Parkers. Together, they must work together to defeat the villains from their past and, according to the leak, there are a lot of them in this new film.
Now, Tom Holland has finally commented on the casting rumors surrounding Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. During a recent interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Holland revealed that Sony hasn’t told him a single thing about the rumors.
“Beats me, I don’t know,” he says. “If they are, they haven’t told me yet… That would be something that Marvel would do. I watch the film and be like, ‘So that’s who that tennis ball was!’”
Throughout his time as Spider-Man, Holland has gained quite the reputation for accidentally spilling Marvel spoilers. So, it’s possible Sony may be leaving him in the dark about these rumors for a reason. However, it’s also possible Holland may be getting better at dodging these kinds of questions.
Elsewhere in the Variety interview, Holland says that Spider-Man 3 is the most “ambitious” superhero film ever made.
“I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made,” he said. “You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding. It’s really impressive. I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it. And I’m just, you know, again, that lucky little shit who happens to be Spider-Man in it.”
Although Sony may be keeping some secrets away from Holland, the company did release a massive hint about the new film. This week, Sony shared a cryptic clue that alludes to one of the storylines in Spider-Man 3. By the looks of it, the upcoming movie is going to address that massive Far From Home cliffhanger with Mysterioand Peter Parker.
